Growing up in rural New England, a love for the land was instilled in me at an early age.
My family and I grew vegetables in gardens and enjoyed working with the soil. My first real job was plucking turkeys at Thanksgiving. Eventually I chose a career in Medicine that led me away from that place and my connection with the land, but somehow those early experiences were forever a part of me.
I met my beautiful wife in 2008. A sophisticated suburban/ city girl, who was raised in a town that grew up around her faster than she did. However, her early years she enjoyed riding horses, family dogs, sailing and boating in summers and gardening. Her love for the the outdoors also etched a place in her character but were similarly displaced as she pursued her ambitions in Public Relations and Event planning in NYC. It isn’t surprising then, that as our children from our blended family finished college, we sought a tranquil place that had all the amenities we sought, yet surrounded by mountains and natural beauty.
We got the surprise of our life when our children expressed interest in being part of this adventure. We began searching for the “right” place in 2018 visiting the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland. It seemed that Central Virginia was comfortable for a New England country boy and his chic, outdoorsy wife and in 2022 we finally found a breathtaking property outside of Charlottesville.
Surrounded by farmland and overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, our 80 acres is 30 minutes from Charlottesville, with access to shops, restaurants, and all forms of cultural activities from presidential homes and libraries to historical sites, museums, vineyards, cideries, the University of Virginia and so much more. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, and any outdoor activity one can imagine are all at our doorstep. All of this coupled with a location one hour from Richmond and 90 minutes from Washington, made the place perfect for us, our kids and future generations. The land with unsurpassed views of the Blue Ridge mountains was advertised as a “developer’s dream” but it was not to be. No. It was decided. This would be home for our family and our posterity.
I grew up in rural New England. We cultivated vegetables in small gardens and my first real job was plucking turkeys at Thanksgiving. I followed my career path as an MD and had lost connection with the land. I met my beautiful wife in 2008, she is the founder of a National Public Relations and Event agency and a suburban/city girl who lived outside Philadelphia. As a child, she had a passion for riding horses and enjoying the outdoors. But, her busy career took her to major cities and she missed nature, gardening, and her love of animals. It isn't surprising then, as our blended family grew and our children graduated from college, we sought a tranquil place to continue our careers that wasn’t entirely remote. We got the surprise of our life when our children expressed their interest in moving close to us. Whoever would have imagined!
